How counting works

Every network counts differently

A post that fits on one network can be too long on the next. This is what each one counts.

3,000

Profile posts and company page posts share the same limit. Links count in full, and the feed folds the rest behind “…see more”.

X

280

X counts most letters as 1, and emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as 2. Every link counts as 23, however long it is. Premium and Basic subscribers can post up to 25,000.

TikTok

This is the caption under your video. Hashtags and mentions count toward it.

YouTube

This is the video description. The title is separate and much shorter.

Facebook

Facebook accepts longer posts than this, but Foliwo stops Page posts at 10,000, far past what anyone reads in a feed. The feed folds the rest behind “See more”.

Instagram

Captions stop at 2,200, and Instagram takes up to 5 hashtags per post. The feed shows the first line or so, then “…more”, so open with your hook.

Bluesky counts what you see as one character (a grapheme), so any emoji, even a family emoji, counts as 1.
