A little, as with any JPEG. The compressor tries the highest quality first and lowers it only as far as it must, never below 60%. If the file is still too big, it makes the photo smaller in pixels instead, which shows less than heavy compression.

A photo over the limit is refused, and a scheduled post with one fails to publish. Under the limit, you choose how much detail to keep instead of finding out after the upload fails.

JPEG for photos: it is much smaller and every network takes it. PNG keeps transparent backgrounds and sharp edges in graphics, but it has no quality setting, so the compressor can only make it smaller in pixels.

JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white. Pick PNG to keep them.

Yes. The compressed file is drawn again from the pixels, so it keeps no EXIF data: no GPS location, camera model or date taken. The photo is turned the right way up first.

Not a GIF: compressing it here would keep only its first frame. A HEIC photo works when your browser can open it, as Safari does; otherwise save it as JPEG first.

The compressor stops before the longest side drops under 320 pixels and tells you the photo is still too big. That only happens with very small custom targets.
